WeaveRdream featured a new royale majestic wave of contemporary New Zealand korowai styles complimenting traditional artistry at the London Pacific Fashion Week event hosted on the 13th September at the Meston Suite, Royal Horse Guards Hotel, Whitehall, London.
Meet our WeaveRdream Fashion Designer Māori artist Dorothy ‘Dot’ Stowers (Ngāpuhi) featured her Designer Brand WeaveRdream opening the Pacific Voyage show for Season 20 representing New Zealand.
Prior to arriving into London; Dorothy was interviewed by Te Ao Māori News “Creating korowai has not only been a labour of love, but a journey of self-discovery. “It means so much more to me. It’s just opened me up to loving this culture, loving this craft … and I get inspired when I see other Māori designers out there doing it too,” she says.
The upper case “R” in her brand, WeaveRdream is a tribute to her mother, Rita, who would no doubt be proud of her daughter’s craft.
To see the WeaveRdream collection unfold both at the Media Launch and the main show event is like sharing a story from a dream. You have to be physically there to view the collection up-close to feel it’s majestic presence or mana‘ that filtered from the collection
The high level of weaving technique, attention to detail, colourful array of feathers intertwined into the weave with the key message of ‘climatechangeinthepacific’ with a masterpiece dedicated to the theme.
Use of other traditional ornaments and pearls to give life into the WeaveRdream designs that left the entire fashion audience mesmerised.
The support from the New Zealand Community London ‘Ngati Ranana’ welcoming Dorothy and her family together with our Designer and delegation from Hawaii @Pomahina Designs into London was surreal.
This definitely paved a welcoming energy for Dorothy to accomplish and represent New Zealand on an Fashion platform in London which she did in style. Her majestic korowai collection laced with some of the Top New Zealand soundtracks composed by Vince Harder RnB Singer/Producer to fully launch her brand on the runway.
Dorothy opened the LPFW Panel discussion sharing her WeaveRdream journey to all our Creatives that were present including a welcoming chant that she and her husband and son Ryan performed too. It was a perfect start to a what one may call a ‘London Weave’ for what has yet to unfold.
This was followed by the official opening of the Media launch by the Deputy High Commissioner, New Zealand High Commission London, Mr David Evans.
How majestic they all looked as they carried and modelled the collection with PRIDE understanding the journey the Korowai’s have taken to finally feature in London.
I could continue with writing about WeaveRdream but let our photographers paint it for you with what they have all captured through their lenses. Thank you @AsadAfzal @SteveLilly @TimCopsey @AidanckPhotography stunning images from both the Media launch and the show.
To wear a WeaveRdream Korowai overlooking London is like a dream come true and for this Top London Pacific Models it was exactly that.
I have been weaved into her dream that is. I feel truly honoured to be gifted with a WeaveRdream korowai and like many before me; this is a gift that I will fully cherish in my Fashion journey. Vinaka vakalevu Dorothy for sharing your dream with me.
